Located on the southern coast of Turkey, the Lycian Way consists of a 540 km waymarked footpath in the Teke peninsula. From the Late Bronze Age all the way into the Byzantine Empire, the Lycians prospered politically, culturally and economically by dominating the maritime trade of the region.

We invite you to join our “Lycian Way West” tour that takes 5 days and a proper footwear for an easy hike! On  “Lycian Way West”, we will discover the trails from Fethiye to the south. We will spend one overnight in Kayaköy for two overnights in Faralya.

Tour Program

Day 1

Arrival to Kayaköy

Our five-day adventure begins with a start at Kayaköy. Once we check in to our hotel, you will have plenty of free time to discover the area. You might get a chance to walk around as you please before we meet for dinner. In the evening, you will meet our tour guide at the hotel. While drinking a çay, you will hear a short introduction about the tour.

Day 2

King Amyntas tomb visit and walking to Kayaköy

We will start the day by visiting the tomb of the Lycian King Amyntas located on a hillside with beautiful views of Fethiye. After a short bus trip, our hike will start from a spot close to Kayaköy. We will keep walking till Kayaköy through the old paved road, and we will check-in to our hotel. Those who are tired of the early morning flight may rest at the hotel or they may use their free time to enjoy Kayaköy.

Walking time: 3 hours, 7-8 km

Day 3

Kayaköy-Ölüdeniz Hike

After breakfast, we will discover Kayaköy which is also known as “ghost village”. This village, where Greek Orthodox and Turkish communities had lived together for many centuries, was evacuated after the population exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1923. It is in fact an open-air museum with its abandoned stone houses and public buildings. After our walk in the village, we will continue towards Ölüdeniz. During our route, Saint Nicholas Island will be visible and the enchanting view of the bays with the shades of blue will accompany us. When we reach the beach, the sea will be welcoming the ones who would like to take a swim. Others might spend some time in one of the cafés located along the beach and enjoy the view of Ölüdeniz.

Day 4

Ovacık-Faralya Hike

On day 4 we will experience one of the most epic views of the Lycian Way. After breakfast, we will head towards the first spot of the route, which is Ovacık. Our walkway will start from the mountainsides of Babadağ which is famous for being one of the best places in the world for paragliding. Once we cross the mountain villages, we will have the striking views of the paragliders above us. During lunch break, we will be guests of a family living in a small village house. Late in the afternoon, we will continue to Faralya and will arrive at our hotel which is located on a spot with gorgeous views.

Walking time: 5-6 hours, 13-14 km

Day 5

Faralya – Kabak Village Hike

After breakfast, we will start to walk towards Kabak Village, enjoying the view from a cape which faces the Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi). Then we will follow a forest road which will take us to a bay closer to Faralya, meanwhile we will walk near to the bays which are completely uninhabited. On the last bay that we will visit, we will eat lunch and there will be time for a swim. At the end of the free time we will go back to Fethiye.

Day 6

Departure Day

We’ll spend our last breakfast together and will have the opportunity to look back at the experiences we had during this trip before we check out and depart to our ways. We wish you safe travels back to your home and hope to see you again!

REACHING THE HOTEL FROM THE AIRPORT

Airport transfer to/from the hotel is not included in the price. A private one-way transfer costs 85 Euros for 1-2 persons, 110 Euros for 3-4 persons, 125 Euros for 5-10 and 140 Euros for 10+ persons.

IS THIS TRIP FOR YOU?

This trip consists of comfortable walking with some short, steep slopes, on average 5-6 hours a day. There will be moderate ascents and descents, roughly a few hundred metres. It is ideal for people who can manage to walk 4-5 hours a day during a weekend excursion. The best time to do this hike is March, April, May and September, October, November.

LUGGAGE TRANSPORT

Your luggages will be transferred between each accommodation. All you need is a backpack to carry your lunchbox, drinking water, photo camera etc.

MEALS

You will be eating mostly set menus at the hotels and restaurants. Your lunch boxes are usually made of a sandwich, snack, seasonal fruit.

TRANSFERS

There will be a private van with A/C for the entire trip.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

The most important is the walking boots, which should cover your ankle. Outfit that is suitable for walking, lots of shirts, shorts or walking pants, sunglasses, raincoat, a hat, sunscreen cream, water bottle, swimwear and 30 lt backpack should be enough for this excursion. We provide hiking poles for those who need but please make sure in advance that you need one.

COVID-19 RELATED

There are no mandatory vaccination requirements for Turkey.

As of December 30, 2020, passengers arriving in Turkey are required to submit a negative PCR test (nucleic acid). The sample for the test must have been taken within 72 hours prior to the passenger’s scheduled departure from the country of origin. This applies to all passengers aged 6 years and over, except sailors and transit passengers.
